Laminate is created by taking a strip of mdf a board made of reconstituted wood fibres and covering it with a thin layer of plastic with a wood effect image on it. We recommend pinning the scotia to the skirting board using either small panel pins or an electrical staple tool. I couldn t find any alternative other than glue. Scotia beading can cost around 5 10 per length depending on the material.

Fill the nail holes with a wood filler for wood grain scotia or a matching color of latex caulk for paint colored scotia. There will also be the potential cost of replacing or supplying skirting boards and or adding beading. Laminate flooring is a type of wooden flooring though it only uses a very small amount of wood in its production. At d lewis kitchens carpentry we usually remove the skirting fit the laminate then re fit or replace the skirting as it looks a better job however on the odd occasions we have used a trim we have followed the manufacturers advice and that has been to pin the trim to the skirting as this method allows the required movement by the floor due to heat and moisture changes.

That s because such flooring needs to have an expansion gap around the room and what scotia does is fill in that gap by attaching to the skirting board and around the perimeter of the wall. Pin or staple the scotia through the center of the scotia to reduce the risk of splitting. You can also use an adhesive like no more nails or similar. Designed in a stylish concave form it gives the floor a neat border and does an effective job of concealing the space between the floor and baseboard which is purposely left when laying a new.

Scotia is the final key to a successful installation for solid wood engineered wood and laminate flooring. However scotia beading performs an important role.
